What we do
Nourishing Every Small Tummy, Inc is an infant formula support program designed to provide immediate nutritional assistance to infants in low-income households experiencing crisis or food insecurity. The program distributes infant formula at no cost to families based on referrals from qualified professionals, including social workers, community outreach workers, medical providers, community health workers, and nonprofit agencies addressing food insecurity.
How the Program Works
- Referral Process: Partner professionals submit a standardized referral form verifying the family’s need (see table below) and the infant’s basic information. The organization does not accept self-referrals to ensure proper screening and equitable distribution.
- Assessment and Approval: Staff or volunteers review the referral for completeness and determine the appropriate formula type and quantity based on the infant’s age and dietary needs.
- Distribution of Formula: Formula is provided directly to the family through scheduled pickup, delivery by volunteers, or coordination with the referring agency. Emergency cases may be prioritized for same-day assistance.
- Ongoing Support: When appropriate, the organization may provide short-term follow-up support, including additional formula, referrals to long-term assistance programs, and connections to community resources addressing food insecurity.
Charitable Purpose
The program directly supports the organization’s mission to ensure that infants in crisis have access to essential nutrition. By partnering with professionals who work closely with vulnerable families, the organizaƟon ensures responsible distribution, reduces risk of misuse, and maximizes community impact.
Funding
The program is funded through donations, grants, fundraising activities, and community partnerships. All funds are used exclusively to purchase formula, support distribution logistics, and maintain program operations.
Public Benefit
This program addresses a critical gap in emergency food assistance by focusing specifically on infant nutrition—a need not fully met by traditional food pantries or government programs. By preventing lapses in infant feeding, the program promotes child health, family stability, and community well-being.
